THE LOGISTICS / FAQs / SAFEGUARDING

HOW DOES 'ZOOM' WORK?

Zoom is a cloud-based video conferencing service. Minors (persons under 18 years of age) are not permitted to create an account per Zoom’s Terms of Service. Therefore, we advise that these participants use the Zoom account of their parent/guardian. Once you have booked onto the course, all information and instructions will be emailed to you, including a simple step-by-step guide on how to download Zoom Cloud in advance of the course and how to access the workshops on the day. We recommend you read the information offered on Zoom, and ensure you have the ability and confidence to use the service before the workshops commence.

DO I NEED INTERNET ACCESS?

Yes. You will need a strong Wifi connection for the best experience. Using an ethernet cable to ‘hard wire’ your internet into a computer could offer further stability and speed.

WHAT DEVICE SHOULD I USE?

We recommend that you use a device with the largest screen available. A desktop or laptop is ideal (phones and tablets can be too small to see clearly) Some people may be able to mirror their computer screen to their TV for an even better view.

WILL I BE SEEN AND HEARD?

No. All participant's cameras will be disabled and audio muted throughout. You will only be able to see the host and the workshops leaders, while nobody will be able to see or hear any participants. It is for this reason that parental supervision is particularly important, please see ‘Safeguarding’ section below.

HOW CAN I ASK QUESTIONS?

Participants and/or parents will be able to communicate with the host privately at any point during the workshop using the ‘chat’ option. You will be encouraged to type your questions for the Q&A at the end of each workshop, which will be read aloud by the host and answered by the workshop leader. All other chat options (publicly to ‘everyone’, privately between participants and privately to the workshop leader) will be disabled.

CAN MY SIBLING/S JOIN IN?

Yes! You do not need to book multiple times for more than 1 participant in your household.

CAN MY FRIEND JOIN IN?

Absolutely, but they will need to make their own booking. Please do not pass meeting details on to others outside your household, as only authorised persons who have booked and paid will be admitted into the workshop.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Wear what you would normally wear to a dance class. Appropriate clothing that you can move easily and safely in. Trainers or dance shoes – we do not recommend dancing in socks or bare feet, even on carpet. Remove all jewellery, and tie up long hair off the face.

HOW MUCH SPACE DO I NEED?

We understand that space is going to be limited. Choreography will be designed to keep routines as compact as possible. However, it is important that your space is clear and tidy. Parents/guardians should ensure that participants have a safe and hazard-free space to dance in. Please consider potential risks, choose an appropriate space and remove any hazards. We also know pets can get excited when you're dancing and want to get involved, but please keep them away to avoid tripping.

SAFEGUARDING

We have taken advice regarding distance teaching and learning from a combination of sources, including the National Education Union, NSPCC and International Dance Teachers Association to provide a service that follows best practise guidelines.

As the service provider we have a Duty of Care to our participants. However, due to the nature of these online, remote learning workshops, it is essential that parent/guardians take full responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of their children whilst engaging in our workshops.

By booking your child onto the course, you accept full responsibility for them while they engage in our service.

Our Duty of Care:

  1. The hosts of ‘Stage At Home’, Stephanie Parker and Sarah Platt, are both qualified dance teachers and licensed chaperones, with Enhanced DBS certificates, and public liability insurance that covers online teaching.

  2. Stephanie Parker will be present and monitoring throughout, providing regular health and safety reminders and observing all workshops closely to ensure guidelines are strictly adhered to.

  3. All workshop leaders understand and agree to our Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct.

  4. To ensure children’s safety and wellbeing whilst participating remotely, we ask that a minimum of 1 adult is at home to supervise participants.

  5. All participant’s cameras will be disabled, and audio muted.

  6. Our Zoom meetings are password protected and only authorised participants will be admitted into the workshop.

  7. A register will be recorded daily and kept on file for one month.

  8. All workshops will be video recorded and kept on file for one month, should any disputes arise.

  9. Participants and/or parents will be able to communicate with the host privately at any point during the workshop, by using the ‘chat’ option. All other chat options (publically to ‘everyone’, privately between participants and privately to the workshop leader) will be disabled.

RICHARD DAVIES

Tegan loved the whole week, every session was different and the enthusiasm of the presenters came through the screen. The whole week was really well organised and Tegan is now exhausted but totally inspired and much better prepared to try to get involved in some of these shows.

FAYE GIBNEY

Sian absolutely loved the workshops this week! They were engaging, fast paced and upbeat. A lovely way to start the morning and keep up with dancing during isolation! Thank you :-)

LOTTIE ERRATT-ROSE

The workshops were great fun and I would say they were the right level of difficulty. The leaders went at a really good pace and the question and answer sessions were really insightful and helped me understand a little more about how to get into showbusiness!

JANE BATTERSBY

What a fantastic week! Great fun and my children thoroughly enjoyed it. I couldn’t help myself but listen in and watch them each day even joining in on the final session because it was just contagious!! Well done for organising such a terrific programme!!

EMILY PETNEY

I loved the week! All the workshops were amazing and the leaders were all incredible - they were nice, friendly, happy to answer any questions and go over any sections of the choreography and they all taught their choreography really well via Zoom! I loved the variety of different musicals the workshops covered.

WENDY MARTIN

My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the week’s classes, thankyou. Some in particular she’d happily have done again and again as they were so much fun. It also introduced her to a couple more musicals she wasn’t familiar with which she’s now added to her playlists.

ZOE ENGLAND

This was a fantastic set of dance routines, set beautifully to the music and taught brilliantly. My daughters really got a kick out of doing this, and were inspired to watch shows they hadn’t seen. Thank you.

EVE KNAGG

Such a great opportunity and has been a great way to be occupied during lockdown. I have learnt so much more about the industry.

AMY NICHOLLS

Thank you Steph for putting on an amazing week of fun filled classes taught by west end performers. I couldn't recommend these workshops enough!

NIKKI WOOLARD

We only did Friday but it was fabulous. We would definitely want to take part again. It's been brilliant to be able to do the classes as well as the workshops with my teenage girls. You have really given us something to look forward to Steph, you have a great energy and your classes are such fun.

MIA CAMPBELL

I have absolutely loved this week, it has really cheered me up and kept me busy instead of staying in bed and watching tv! Each workshop was so much fun and I’ve really really enjoyed learning different types of dancing. It would be lovely to have another week in May half term as i’m sure many people would appreciate having something as enjoyable as this to look forward to.

SANDIE FORRESTER

High standard of tutorials, mostly pitched at the right level. Zoom generally worked well apart from sound levels at times. Very well organised and effective safeguards in place. Thank you for the great variety of dance styles and musicals. My child really enjoyed the week.
